ABOUT ME

In eighth grade, I began experimenting with my mother’s sewing machine. Inspired by fashion and rock n roll from the 1960s, I wanted to emulate the outfits and styles from that era on my own.... that is with some help from my mom, grandmother and aunt! But by the end of high school, I had a created quite an extensive handmade wardrobe for herself, even gaining some notoriety from the local newspaper.

As I earned my degree in multimedia and performing arts from Massachusetts College of Art, I continued sewing and created "applecart", a line of handbags and accessories. Originally, applecart was sold only at small events through my college (for some extra cash!) but grew to be carried in a few select stores on the east coast and was even featured on NBC New York morning TV show. However, as applecart grew, I never stopped creating unique, one-of-a-kind clothing for myself.

I moved to Brooklyn in 2008 to take a job as a manager and buyer for one of my favorite independent boutiques, Flirt Brooklyn INC, and it was there that I started to focus more on clothing rather than handbags. Inspired and encouraged by my good friends and mentors at Flirt, I began creating distinctive, handmade dresses sold exclusively at their store.

After a few years of customer’s asking “who made this?”, I finally got it together and created EMILY G. CLOTHING. All my pieces are made in Brooklyn by yours truly. Individuality is very important to me and to my customers. My goal is to create clothing that is just as unique as the individuals who wear it!
